Child
Care Licensing:
Center
of Distinction |
What is it?
-
A voluntary designation earned by centers
that participate in the Standards of Care Program administered by the Office
of School Readiness. The program recognizes day care centers that provide
a rich, interactive learning environment for children.
-
The program is open to DHR licensed centers
in Fulton, Dodge, Laurens, Muscogee and Schley counties. Centers must have
a good history with the Child Care Licensing Section and have been operating
for at least one year.
How is Center of Distinction
achieved?
-
By demonstrating that a high quality child
care environment is provided as measured by the Infant/Toddler Environmental
Rating Scale (ITERS) and the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale-Revised
(ECERS-R).*
-
The Center Director’s attendance at an
Orientation session provided by the Office of School Readiness.
-
Attendance at four free caregiver training
sessions provided by the Office of School Readiness; designed for lead
classroom teachers, these address the learning needs of infants,
toddlers and preschoolers.
*The ITERS and ECERS-R are nationally
recognized measures of child care
quality developed at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
What resources are available
to help me with this process?

in the above listed counties to assist providers with the process.

equipment/materials will also be available in the pilot counties.
